5 Reasons to Choose Wallpaper for Your Walls

Published by Leon under Interior Design & Decorating

People often prefer painted walls over wallpaper. But those people may be missing out on some of wallpaper’s advantages. In terms of design trends, wallpaper tends to go in and out of style. But no matter its popularity, here are 5 reasons to choose wallpaper for your walls.

1. Wallpaper Offers a Variety of Styles
When you use paint, all you can choose is the color of the walls. And if you are not handy with a paintbrush, you can usually choose only one color. On the other hand, wallpaper gives you much more variety to choose from. Wallpaper not only varies in color, but also in terms of patterns and textures as well. With paint you are quite limited, whereas with wallpaper you have thousands of options to pick from. In terms of wallpaper, the options are endless in terms of what you can choose for your home. You’ll be surprised at all the different types of wallpaper they make nowadays.

2. Wallpaper Can Help Disguise Imperfections
Wallpaper provides a great way to hide any imperfections or uneven surfaces on your walls. Since wallpaper covers the wall, a crack or dent won’t be visible anymore. Compared to paint, wallpaper does a much better job at disguising and imperfections.

3. Wallpaper Displays Your Real Personality and Interests
No matter what you happen to love, be it trees or boats, you can easily express that interest in your life with wallpaper. Wallpaper truly allows you to express your personality and showcase what interests you. No matter what hobby you want to show off, you will most likely be able to find wallpaper to go with it.

4. Wallpaper Can Improve the Appearance of the Room
Wallpaper can make a room look much better than it did before. Wallpaper can work wonders at bringing together different elements of the room into a more cohesive style. Or you can use wallpaper to remedy other circumstances, such as making a small room look larger. Putting wallpaper on the walls is one of the biggest things you can do to change the style of a room. When wallpaper is pleasing to the eye and fits well with the style of the décor, it can actually look much more appealing than just paint on the walls.

5. Wallpaper Borders Are a Great Option for Extra Style
If you can’t decide whether to paint or wallpaper a room, try painting and adding a wallpaper border to the walls. This way, you can have the personalized style and added character wallpaper brings to the room without the big commitment wallpapering the whole wall entails. With a wallpaper border in the middle or at the top of the wall, you can incorporate more of your sense of style into the room.

As a home decorating tool, wallpaper is not going anywhere. Although according to décor trends it may come and go, there are permanent benefits to having wallpaper on your walls at all times.

Decorating Tips for a Kitchen Island

There are many different kitchen islands that a homeowner can choose from. Not every kitchen island is going to be decorated and used in the same manner. Some islands are better for simply storing items underneath, whereas others need more style added to them, perhaps some strategically placed décor items. Following are some great decorating tips to consider for your kitchen island.

Turn the Kitchen Island into a Sitting Area
A kitchen island makes a great sitting area for the family—depending, of course, on its size. All you need do is clean off the top of it and add a few stools. Then the family can sit around it and enjoy meals together. This is a great option, especially if you don’t have a table in the kitchen and are limited to your formal dining room table. This is a way to utilize this convenient space in the best way possible. Consider setting the island with placemats in order to add even more style to the room.

Add an Appliance to the Kitchen Island
It may not seem much like decorating to place an appliance on your kitchen island, but this serves as both a functional and decorative way to store a great appliance that you may already own. You can’t just put any old appliance on the counter area. You want to choose something like your nice fancy stainless steel toaster or blender that will add to the décor. Just remember that if you’re going to decorate with an appliance, you need to be sure that the island has outlets or that there is one accessible from where the island is located in the kitchen.

Decorate the Kitchen Island with Kitchen Utensils and Products
Decorating your island with kitchen utensils or other products is another great option, along the same lines as the appliances. As with the appliances, you don’t want to put any old kitchen products on display. Eye-catching items like decorative containers and baskets or a spice rack are great additions to a kitchen island. Other items that look fantastic are napkin or paper towel holders and canisters of dried goods such as sugar and flour. You just want to be sure that the space doesn’t end up being a catch-all. Remember, you still want to keep it neatly organized.

Decorate the Kitchen Island with Flowers
If you can’t figure out what to do with your kitchen island, consider adding a nice vase or basket of flowers. Although fresh flowers are more appealing than fake ones, remember that they’ll need to be replaced every few days. Another option is to place a nice houseplant there.

When decorating, you need to attend to the kitchen island just like any other area in the room. When you leave an island completely empty on top, it tend to be boring and may even bring down the look of the kitchen. If you utilize the space you have, you will create a look for your kitchen that’s much more appealing.

How to Liven Up a Boring Hallway

Published by Leon under Interior Design & Decorating

Although some find it really easy to decorate rooms such as the dining room and bedrooms, when it comes to a hallway, they don’t quite know what to do. If you are one of those people who are confronted with a boring hallway that you don’t know how to remedy, here are some simple tips with which you can liven the space up.

Liven Up a Boring Hallway with a Set of Pictures
Hang a set of pictures on the wall to easily liven up a boring hallway in your home. Be sure to choose pictures that match the space. For a smaller hallway, you’re going to want to hang smaller pictures so that they don’t overpower the wall. Pieces of art work great in a hallway, as do photographs of your family and loved ones. Arrange them in a way that fits the style you are going for in the home.

Liven Up a Boring Hallway with a Small Table
If you have the room, you can always add a small end table or nightstand to the hallway. A great place to put it is between a set of doors on the one side, flush against the wall. Then add some small décor items to it. This is a great place to put a vase of flowers, a coffee table book of art, or a candle. You don’t want to select a table that takes up too much space, but try to find one that’s interesting and might add some style to the hallway. It’s important that you’re still able to comfortably pass through the hallway, even with the table there.

Liven Up a Boring Hallway with Molding or Trim
A great way to liven up that hallway, even one on the smaller side, is by adding molding or decorative trim to it. You can choose from a variety of molding options: anything from ceiling trim that’s placed between the walls and the ceiling to a chair rail that runs along the middle lower region of the wall. The trim or molding can be painted a complementary color that will really stand out so that it’s noticeable and adds some character to the space. If you’ve installed a chair rail in the hallway, paint the top and bottom halves of the wall different colors to add even more style. This will add some contrast, creating an interesting look. An example of this would be painting the top cream and the bottom a darker tan color.

Liven Up a Boring Hallway with an Interesting Light Fixture
You don’t necessarily have to use the walls in order to liven up your hallway. By installing a unique and interesting light fixture, you can create interest in the area. If you’re looking to make a statement with the fixture, choose a light fixture that hangs down. No matter your personal style and taste, there are hundreds of different light fixtures to choose from that will add some appeal to your hallway.

Fortunately, you no longer have to live with a boring hallway. Rather, implement one of these simple ideas to create an appealing and stylish hallway that matches the rest of your home.
